Enjoy the Drive
This is a road you drive slow on not only because of its many curves and bends, but because the views are so grand, you have to drive slow and pull over often to take it all in. Guests taking the byway can start in either North Fork, the exact center of California and a popular jumping off point for the Byway, or near Bass Lake.
As you begin your journey from Oakhurst, travel to North Fork, the exact geographic center of California. Continue on the loop to Mile High Vista, which offers an incredible view of Mammoth Pool, known for great High Sierra fishing. Secluded campgrounds along the mountain streams are some of our best kept secrets! As you continue, you’ll gaze upon lofty granite domes wrapped in deep blue skies and scented with pine.
Scenic Byway Road Conditions

NOTE: Due to high volumes of snow earlier this winter, there are potential hazards on the road in some areas (fallen trees, rock slides, etc…). Please drive with caution. Parts of the byway may not be accessible in early spring. There is still plenty to explore along the paved areas of the byway.
